چکیده

We investigate the use of light assisted collisions for the deterministic preparation of individual atoms in a microtrap. Blue detuned light is used in order to ensure that only one of the collision partners is lost from the trap. We obtain a 91% loading efficiency of single 85Rb atoms. This can be achieved within a total preparation time of 542 ms. A numerical model of the process quantitatively agrees with the experiment giving an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of the process and allowing us to identify the factors that still limit the loading efficiency. The fast loading time in combination with the high efficiency may be sufficient for loading quantum registers at the size required for competitive quantum computing. In situ single-atom array synthesis using dynamic holographic optical tweezers

Establishing a reliable method to form scalable neutral-atom platforms is an essential cornerstone for quantum computation, quantum simulation and quantum many-body physics. Here we demonstrate a real-time transport of single atoms using holographic microtraps controlled by a liquid-crystal spatial light modulator. For this, an analytical design approach to flicker-free microtrap movement is de...

Efficient loading and cooling in a dynamic optical evanescent- wave microtrap

– We calculate the loading efficiency and cooling rates in a bichromatic optical microtrap, where the optical potentials are generated by evanescent waves of cavity fields at a dielectric–vacuum interface. The cavity modified nonconservative dynamic light forces lead to efficient loading of the atoms as well as cooling without the need for spontaneous emission. Steady–state temperatures well be...

Bose-Einstein condensation in a surface microtrap.

Bose-Einstein condensation has been achieved in a magnetic surface microtrap with 4 x 10(5) (87)Rb atoms. The strongly anisotropic trapping potential is generated by a microstructure which consists of microfabricated linear copper conductor of widths ranging from 3 to 30 microm. After loading a high number of atoms from a pulsed thermal source directly into a magneto-optical trap the magnetical...

Numerical Calculation of Resonant Frequencies and Modes of a Three-Atom Photonic Molecule and a Photonic Crystal in an External Cavity

In the present paper, resonant frequencies and modes of a three-atom photonic molecule and a photonic crystal placed within a cavity are numerically calculated. First, governing formulation in transverse electric field mode (TE) is obtained using Maxwell equations. Then, an algorithm based on a finite difference scheme and matrix algebra is presented. The algorithm is then implemented in a comp...

Microtrap arrays on magnetic film atom chips for quantum information science

We present two different strategies for developing a quantum information science platform, based on our experimental results with magnetic microtrap arrays on a magnetic-film atom chip. The first strategy aims for mesoscopic ensemble qubits in a lattice of ∼5μm period, so that qubits can be individually addressed and interactions can be mediated by Rydberg excitations. The second strategy aims ...
